Austin Vein Clinics

austin vein clinicsAt Austin Vascular Surgeons, we have dedicated vein clinics in Austin and Round Rock Texas that specialize in the management of circulatory diseases involving the veins of the legs and the veins throughout the remainder of the body. We treat all forms of venous conditions, ranging from the most minor spider veins to major veins blood clots referred to as Deep Venous Thrombosis, ie. DVT. We also manage more rare vein disorders such as May-Thurner Syndrome, Venous Ulcers, Venous Claudication, and Post-Thrombotic Syndrome.

Austin Varicose Vein Clinics

Varicose veins are one of the most common disease conditions that we manage since this condition affects 23% of adults in the United States. If you include spider veins and reticular veins as well, the prevalence in the US population increases to 80% of men and 85% of women. People seek varicose vein therapy based on both the cosmetic unsightly appearance as well as the uncomfortable symptoms that varicose veins can cause. Varicose veins almost exclusively affect the legs. The incidence is higher in the Caucasian and Mexican populations.

Some of the common symptoms that varicose veins cause is leg pain, leg swelling, leg fatigue, skin changes in the feet and ankles that often look darker tan or dark brown in color. Dermatitis from poor vein circulation can lead to chronic itching, spontaneous skin bleeding, and even ulcerations / wounds. Blood clots are a rare complication of varicose veins.

Treatments for varicose veins have evolved significantly over the past few decades. Although previously varicose veins were most often treated with surgical stripping or phlebectomy, this is no longer the case for most patients. Currently varicose veins are most commonly treated with non-invasive procedures in the office. Local anesthesia with lidocaine / novocaine is often utilized. Modern treatments performed at our Austin vein clinics include endovenous ablation procedures which avoid the need for incisions and which are performed under guidance with an ultrasound machine. Laser and radiofrequency devices can be used to close abnormal veins the are within the skin or under the skin. Procedures often involve introduction of medications into the abnormal veins through small needles. The veins then collapse and disappear. Since the treated veins are faulty, dysfunctional, and abnormal before they are treated and then gone after treatment, the leg circulation will improve following therapy.

Austin Cosmetic Spider Vein Clinics

One of the most common reasons that people seek vein therapy is to rid their skin of unsightly spider veins. By causing spider veins to fade away, the skin returns to a more natural and youthful appearance. Our Austin vein clinics specialize in cosmetic procedures to remove spider veins from the skin.  Our vein specialists have performed many thousands of cosmetic vein procedures.  The most common cosmetic therapy is referred to as sclerotherapy.  This involves introducing very small needles (similar to botox needles) into the small skin veins and then injecting a liquid medication into the veins.  The medication causes the veins to collapse and fade away.  Asclera and Sotradecol are the most common medications utilized.  The procedure is performed with specialized magnification lenses and infrared lighting to optimize the precision of the injections.  Depending on the number and size of spider veins cluster,  more than one session may be needed.

In addition to sclerotherapy vein injections, there are also other cosmetic spider vein therapies available.  This includes heat-based therapies such as thermal ablation with VeinGogh Ohmic Thermolysis and Laser Ablation therapies.

Austin Phlebitis Clinics

Our Austin vein clinics also specialize in the treatment of a vein condition referred to as phlebitis.  Phlebitis can be superficial or deep.  Superficial phlebitis is most commonly the result of varicose veins or venous reflux disease (genetic conditions).   Phlebitis most commonly presents with pain, tenderness, and redness of the skin.  At our vein clinics we can diagnose your phlebitis with ultrasound and physical examination.  Once the diagnosis is confirmed and we know the exact anatomy of the phlebitis, then a individualized treatment plan can be discussed.  This may include prescription medication and compression stockings.

Austin Blood Clot Clinics

Blood clots of the veins can be a very dangerous situation. So if you suspect you may have blood clot you should consider going immediatly to the emergency room or contacting your local phsycian.  Some forms of blood clots, such as deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism can even be lethal.  Blood clots can be diagnosed at our vascular and vein clinics through the use of blood tests, known as D-dimer studies,  or through imaging studies succh as vein duplex ultrasound or CT scans.

If your doctor confirms that you have a more serious form of blood clot, then preciption anticoagulation drugs are typically required immediately.  These medications can be administered intravenously, subcutateously as an injection, or as an oral pill.  Which one of these methods of treatment will be determined by your healthcare providers.  The most severe forms of blood clots may require endovacular procedures or vascular surgery to remedy.
